What Makes A Pair Of Earbuds Good?

  1. Sound Quality: How good the overall audio quality of music, phone calls, or video.
  2. Comfort: The ability to remain comfortable for extended periods of time without itchiness, annoyance, or ear pain.
  3. Build Quality: The overall durability and longevity. Able to withstand harsh conditions for extended periods of time.
  4. Noise Isolation/ Active Noise Cancelling: If any at all, how well the active noise cancelling or noise isolating abilities are.
  5. Battery Life: How long the battery life of the pair of earbuds is at a full charge. Wired earbuds do not have a battery life.
  6. Added Features: A few examples of added features earbuds offer can be Bluetooth wireless capabilities or a built-in microphone for phone calls.

We compared and contrasted each of these factors for the Apple AirPods, Anker Soundcore Liberty 2 Pro, and Samsung Galaxy Buds earbuds

Sound Quality

Especially for music listeners, the overall quality of sound is a massive factor in finding your perfect pair of earbuds. There are various factors that impact a pair of earbuds’ sound quality.

Apple AirPods
To my ears, the sound quality is perfect. The Apple AirPods provide the very best sound quality true wireless earbuds are able to offer. All of the frequencies are perfectly balanced while maintaining a fair amount of separation. All the instruments are easily heard leaving nothing out. The bass response is full and punchy, the mids are rich, and the highs are just right. Even at max volumes, you won’t hear any distortion or harsh frequencies. Compared to every other true wireless pair of earbuds, I give it a 10 out of 10 for sound quality.

Anker Soundcore Liberty 2 Pro
With incredibly powerful drivers, the earbuds produce full and clear sound quality. These earbuds are very bass-heavy for those who prefer it that way. Although the bass is rocking, it doesn’t get boomy or muddy either. It has a large sound stage as well for a full sound. You will be pretty satisfied with the overall sound. With a clear sound and no distortion, I give it an 8.7 out of 10 for sound quality.

Samsung Galaxy Buds
Here is yet another pair of incredibly popular earbuds with excellent ratings. You can either get this pair with or without the charging case. These earbuds produce exceptional sound quality that won’t leave you disappointed. They have a great bass response and decent highs, as well. I give it an 8.8 out of 10 for sound quality.

Overall, the Apple AirPods have the best sound quality.

Comfort

The ability for earbuds to remain comfortable for extended periods of time without itchiness, annoyance, pressure, or ear pain. Considering many people use earbuds for commute, air travel, or work; Comfort is a vital factor.

Apple AirPods
The Apple AirPods are extremely comfortable. They feel like nothing is on once put in. Even though their incredibly light on the ears, they stay securely in them. I’ve gone on many runs with them and they’ve never even gotten close to falling out. You will be very satisfied with their overall comfort and ability to stay in your ears.

Anker Soundcore Liberty 2 Pro
In terms of comfort, I would say these earbuds are designed for larger ears. Other ear sizes may need to take a break from them every few hours due to fatigue. I recommend these for larger ears. Coming with the purchase are many liquid silicone ear tips to find the perfect size, as well.

Samsung Galaxy Buds
You get a few ear tip sizes to fit your ear how you want. These earbuds are very comfortable and fit your ear snug. I give them a 9.6 out of 10 for their comfort.

Overall, the Apple AirPods are the most comfortable. In close second is the Samsung Galaxy Buds. However, there are people who believe otherwise.

Build Quality

What good are your amazingly sounding earbuds if they break in a few months? The overall durability and longevity are crucial for any investment you make. Especially for those who need earbuds for commute, it’s important they’re able to withstand vigorous traveling conditions consistently.

Apple AirPods
In terms of build quality, both the case and earbuds are robust and sturdy. The earbuds have not only survived multiple times hitting the ground, but they’ve also pulled through an accidental washer an dryer without a scratch. However, the manufacturer claims there not water-resistant. Contrary to that belief, I sweat with them at the gym all the time and have had no issues.

Anker Soundcore Liberty 2 Pro
These earbuds have a decent build quality. It’s nothing too exciting but not much to complain about either. Runners, hikers, and anyone physically active will enjoy its IPX4 sweatproof capabilities. Overall, I give it an 8.3 out of 10 for the build.

Samsung Galaxy Buds
With a sturdy but lightweight build, you will be happy with the overall design. These earbuds and the Galaxy Plus have the same build quality. The material made is high-quality and will leave you satisfied. Not to forget, they offer IPX2 sweat-resistant capabilities, as well.

Overall, the Apple AirPods has the best build quality and design.

Noise Isolation/ Active Noise Cancelling

Don’t be confused between active noise cancelling and noise isolation earbuds. They are both entirely different. Noise-cancelling technology is very unique. Unlike noise-isolating earbuds, noise-cancelling earbuds do not eradicate outside noise by physical insulation. Within the ear cups, they have a mini microphone that picks up the outside environmental noise. It then triggers a frequency entirely opposite to the outside ambient noise. Thus, canceling out most outside ambient sound.

Apple AirPods
Where these earbuds significantly lack is their lack of noise isolation. Once put on, outside noise does not reduce naturally at all. They also don’t offer active noise cancelling, either.

Anker Soundcore Liberty 2 Pro
These earbuds don’t provide active noise cancellation, however, the passive noise isolation is decent. However, the cVc 8. 0 noise reduction activates during phone calls for added clarity. Overall, I give it an average rating of 7 out of 10 for its passive noise isolation.

Samsung Galaxy Buds
These earbuds don’t offer active noise cancelling. However, they do provide acceptable passive noise isolation. Strangely, I found their noise isolation abilities didn’t block out as much noise as its earlier version by a slight margin. Overall, I give it an 8.8 out of 10 for blocking out outside noise naturally. These earbuds offer “Ambient Mode,” as well.

Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Buds have the best passive noise isolation.

Battery Life

Battery life is an overlooked subject when speaking about over-ear earbuds. Obviously, the only earbuds that have a battery life are those which are wireless. Many earbuds on the market do not have wireless capabilities. But for those who do, a more extended battery-life becomes a convenient factor.

Apple AirPods
On a full charge, these earbuds give you 5 hours of continuous use. The wireless charging case adds an additional 24 hours.

Anker Soundcore Liberty 2 Pro
They give you a solid 8-hour battery life. The charging case coming with the purchase adds an additional 24 hours. As a side note, they charge extremely fast.

Samsung Galaxy Buds
These earbuds offer a decent battery life of 6 hours on a full charge. If you get the version with the charging case, the case adds an additional 7 hours.

Overall, the Anker Soundcore Liberty 2 Pro has the most extended battery life.

Added Features

Here we summarize each pair of earbuds and talk about some of the added features.

Apple AirPods
A feature that I thoroughly enjoy is its auto on/off. The moment you put the earbuds in your ear, they automatically turn on. If you take one-off, they both turn off. I find this feature is incredibly convenient. The wireless charging case comes in handy, as well. With its built-in mic, phone calls are incredibly clear without any issues. Overall, the Apple AirPods is the most reliable choice of true wireless earbuds under $200. It’s a fantastic bang for the buck and I highly recommend it.

Anker Soundcore Liberty 2 Pro
One of the best attributes the earbuds offer is its incredible phone call quality. With its cVc 8. 0 noise reduction technology mixed with the quad-microphones, phone calls are clear and reliable on both ends. You’ll also appreciate its unique HearID technology which customizes the audio EQ based on each individual. Overall, the Anker Soundcore Liberty 2 Pro is a fantastic choice of true wireless earbuds running below $200. It’s a great bang for the buck and a reliable choice.

Samsung Galaxy Buds
The Samsung Galaxy Buds provide decent call quality. It’s not as good as the Plus, however, it’s not bad either. Each earbud has 2 built-in microphones to pick up your voice. Overall, the Samsung Galaxy Buds is a great pair of true wireless earbuds running below $200. What I like about them is the option to buy them with or without the wireless charging case.

However, our winner is the Apple AirPods for many reasons. They have fantastic sound quality, comfort, reliable connection, secure fit, great call quality, and robust build. They’re also the highest-rated and most popular earbuds on the market running at a fantastic bang for the buck.
