But first…

What Makes A Pair Of Headphones Good?

  • Sound Quality: How good the overall audio quality of music, phone calls, or video.
  • Comfort: The ability to remain comfortable for extended periods of time without itchiness, annoyance, or ear pain.
  • Build Quality: The overall durability and longevity. Able to withstand harsh conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Noise Isolation/ Active Noise Cancelling: If any at all, how well the active noise cancelling or noise isolating abilities are.
  • Battery Life: How long the battery life of the pair of headphones is at a full charge.
  • Added Features: A few examples of added features headphones offer can be Bluetooth capabilities, built-in AI assistant, headphone controls, built-in microphone for phone calls, flexibility, rotatable ear cups, etc.

We compared and contrasted each of these factors for the MKay & OneOdio Y80B

Sound Quality

Especially for music listeners, the overall quality of sound is a massive factor in finding your perfect pair of headphones. There are various factors that impact a pair of headphones’ sound quality.

OneOdio Y80B
For the price, the sound quality will genuinely blow you away. It has 50mm neodymium drivers that provide powerful bass and clear sound. Both the mids and highs are detailed and clear. Not to forget, these headphones offer HIFI sound quality, which is fantastic. You will overall be very satisfied with the audio clarity for its low-budget under $50. Better yet, there is no noticeable difference in audio between Bluetooth or wired.

In my honest opinion, the MKay headphones are way underpriced compared to the value they bring to the table. For one, their sound quality is spectacular for the price. It sounds clean and crisp without distortion or buzz. In terms of audio clarity, they can stand head-to-head against many headphones three times the price. Overall, if you’re looking for the best sounding headphones at the lowest price, this pair is the one for you!

Overall, the OneOdio Y80B has the best sound quality between the two.

The ability for headphones to remain comfortable for extended periods of time without itchiness, annoyance, pressure, or ear pain. Considering many people use headphones for commute, air travel, or work; Comfort is a vital factor.

OneOdio Y80B
In terms of comfort, the padding is deep and quite soft. It is much more comfortable than I was expecting. However, every hour or so the top of the head and ears may need a break due to the pressure. If a cloud was a 10 and a 4 was mildly uncomfortable, I give the comfort a solid 6.5 out of 10.

These headphones are incredibly comfortable for the price. As a matter of fact, most people are shocked by how lightweight and snugly they fit for the low-price. They are easily worn for hours at a time without needing a break. Best of all, they are comfortable for just about any head size, as well. Don’t let the pictures fool you; they easily fit bigger heads without adding unwanted pressure. You will be very satisfied with the overall lightweight and comfortable fit with MKAY headphones.

Overall, the MKay is the most comfortable between the two.

Build Quality

What good are your amazingly sounding headphones if they break in a few months? The overall durability and longevity are crucial for any investment you make. Especially for those who need headphones for commute, it’s important they’re able to withstand vigorous traveling conditions consistently.

OneOdio Y80B
The build quality is much better than most headphones in this price range. It is durable and able to last. You will also like its rotatable ear cups and the ability to collapse entirely. Overall, you will be satisfied with the sturdy build quality.

The build quality and the material itself is quite decent for the low-price. However, these headphones are still running around the $25 range. Don’t expect a super robust build quality. Surprisingly, these headphones tend to last a pretty long time. The oval-shaped earpads are soft and well-sized for most ears. Not to forget, the adjustable headband certainly comes in handy, as well. Overall, the build quality is acceptable for the price. They should last you a relatively long time if you’re careful with them.

Overall, the OneOdio Y80B has better build quality.

Noise Isolation/ Active Noise Cancelling

Don’t be confused between active noise cancelling and noise isolation headphones. They are both entirely different. Noise-cancelling technology is very unique. Unlike noise-isolating headphones, noise-cancelling headphones do not eradicate outside noise by physical insulation. Within the ear cups, they have a mini microphone that picks up the outside environmental noise. It then triggers a frequency entirely opposite to the outside ambient noise. Thus, canceling out most outside ambient sound.

OneOdio Y80B
The headphones provide good passive noise isolation with little to no leakage. It has big earcups that entirely cover the ears while applying natural pressure. Like most headphones in this budget, the OneOdio Y80B does not provide Active Noise Cancelling.

The MKAY does not offer active noise cancelling. Natural noise-isolation is not MKAY’s strongpoint. After putting them on, the environmental outside certainly reduces a little bit. Overall, I give these headphones a 3 out of 10 for passive noise isolation. It’s noticeable, but not much at all.

Overall, the OneOdio Y80B provides much better noise-isolation.

Battery Life

Battery life is an overlooked subject when speaking about over-ear headphones. Obviously, the only headphones that have a battery life are those which are wireless. Many headphones on the market do not have wireless capabilities. But for those who do, a more extended battery-life becomes a convenient factor.

OneOdio Y80B
With the built-in 500mAh, these headphones have a staggering battery life of 30 hours with a full charge. You can also use them wired, as well.

With a full charge, you get roughly 8-11 hours of battery life. It takes roughly 2.5 hours to get a full charge.

Overall, the OneOdio Y80B has 3 times the amount of battery life.

Added Features

Here we summarize each pair of headphones and talk about some of the added features.

OneOdio Y80B
Something I like a lot about the OneOdio Y80B is the microphone. This boom mic is adjustable and attachable in case you don’t want to carry the extended mic in public. Considering its a unidirectional mic, it’s great at reducing background noise. Overall, I highly recommend this pair of headphones for gamers in need of a built-in mic on a budget.

With Bluetooth Version 5.0, the wireless headphones secure a fast and robust connection. The MKay is the most affordable pair of headphones with a built-in microphone on the entire market. Unfortunately, the mic does not work once plugged in. It only works when the headphones are on Bluetooth. But if your in need of high-quality and clear calls with no static, I do not recommend this pair. You should be fine with standard casual conversations. You can get the MKY headphones in 6 different colors.

Overall, Both headphones are a draw with their added features. The OneOdio Y80B has a better quality mic but the MKay is built-in making it easier to take out in public.
