What Makes A Pair Of Headphones Good?

  • Sound Quality: How good the overall audio quality of music, phone calls, or video.
  • Comfort: The ability to remain comfortable for extended periods of time without itchiness, annoyance, or ear pain.
  • Build Quality: The overall durability and longevity. Able to withstand harsh conditions for extended periods of time.
  • Noise Isolation/ Active Noise Cancelling: If any at all, how well the active noise cancelling or noise isolating abilities are.
  • Battery Life: How long the battery life of the pair of headphones is at a full charge.
  • Added Features: A few examples of added features headphones offer can be Bluetooth capabilities, built-in AI assistant, headphone controls, built-in microphone for phone calls, flexibility, rotatable ear cups, etc.

We compared and contrasted each of these factors for the Plantronics Pro 2, Silensys E7 PRO, & TaoTronics TT-BH060

Sound Quality

Especially for music listeners, the overall quality of sound is a massive factor in finding your perfect pair of headphones. There are various factors that impact a pair of headphones’ sound quality.

Plantronics Pro 2
With high-res sound, these headphones offer a fantastic balance between all frequencies. The music sound very detailed and crisp. While it still has a great bass response, it does not take away from the punchy mids and sparkly highs. Overall, these headphones have much better sound quality than there price. I give the sound quality a 9 out of 10.

Silensys E7 PRO
For the affordable price, the Silensys E7 PRO produces excellent sound quality. It has 45mm large-aperture drivers that provide an accurate and responsive deep bass. One thing I noticed was when the volume was turned to the max without noise-canceling, the audio got a bit boomy. Around 90% volume and down, the sound quality was very good with great bass response. However, when the active noise-cancellation is turned on, the music sounds a bit more hollow and loses some of the mids /highs.

TaoTronics TT-BH060
The sound quality is decent. However, still suitable for the price point. In my opinion, the TaoTronics TT-BH060 selling point is not the sound quality but many of the other factors.

Overall, the Plantronics Pro 2 has the best sound quality of the three.

The ability for headphones to remain comfortable for extended periods of time without itchiness, annoyance, pressure, or ear pain. Considering many people use headphones for commute, air travel, or work; Comfort is a vital factor.

Plantronics Pro 2
Both the perforated mesh and faux leather contribute a massive amount to the Plantronics Pro 2’s high-level comfort. The earpads are breathable and don’t get the skin itchy or hot. The headband and earcups are well cushioned. These headphones are able to be worn for 7-9 hours at a time without any need for a break. Overall, I give it a 9 out of 10 for comfort.

Silensys E7 PRO
One of my favorite things about the Silensys E7 PRO is its comfort. The faux leather material in the ear cups feels very nice on your ears. Many people even go as far as to sleep with them. I’m also a big fan of how thick the ear padding is. The soft top headband fits very well, while the earcups feel like clouds. Overall, I give the comfort a solid 8.3 out of 10.

TaoTronics TT-BH060
These headphones are incredibly comfortable, as well. You are easily to wear them for long durations without sweaty ears or discomfort. The earcups are made out of soft protein pads and a cushioned headband. Fortunately, they easily fit all head sizes without any issues. Overall, they are in the top 10 for most comfy headphones for extended periods on the market. I give it a 9.1 out of 10.

Overall, the TaoTronics TT-BH060 is the most comfortable of the three.

Build Quality

What good are your amazingly sounding headphones if they break in a few months? The overall durability and longevity are crucial for any investment you make. Especially for those who need headphones for commute, it’s important they’re able to withstand vigorous traveling conditions consistently.

Plantronics Pro 2
The Plantronics Pro 2 has a very unique build quality in which I’m a big fan of. It has a textured and sturdy plastic, metal, and a comfortable pleather while maintaining its lightweight. In terms of longevity, the only thing that may be an issue further down the road is the material that covers the ear cups. Overall, I give it an 8 out of 10 for the build.

Silensys E7 PRO
The durability and longevity of these headphones are surprisingly very good. However, there is a minor trade-off for their more robust than expected build. They are a bit heavy and bulky. But don’t let the picture fool you, they are much smaller and compact in person. A convenient factor is the rotatable ear cups. They can swivel 90-degrees allowing you to place them comfortably around your neck. There are two different ways to turn the headphones on; Either Bluetooth mode or active noise-canceling mode. Overall, I give the build quality a 7.5 out of 10.

TaoTronics TT-BH060
I was highly surprised by the overall build quality for the price. They are sturdy and durable. Typically headphones in this price range are not suited for continuous travel. However, the TaoTronics TT-BH060’s robust durability is able to withstand vigorous traveling conditions. These won’t break easily and will certainly last a long time. You won’t be disappointed by the build. Overall, I give the build quality a 7.7 out of 10.

Overall, the Plantronics Pro 2 has the best build quality.

Noise Isolation/ Active Noise Cancelling

Don’t be confused between active noise cancelling and noise isolation headphones. They are both entirely different. Noise-cancelling technology is very unique. Unlike noise-isolating headphones, noise-cancelling headphones do not eradicate outside noise by physical insulation. Within the ear cups, they have a mini microphone that picks up the outside environmental noise. It then triggers a frequency entirely opposite to the outside ambient noise. Thus, canceling out most outside ambient sound.

Plantronics Pro 2
The active noise-cancellation is very good. In my experience, the noise-cancelling abilities are good enough to block out most chatter, office work, coffee shops, and a vast amount of airplane travel. However, it is not enough to fully block out a busy subway or train ride.

Silensys E7 PRO
The Silensys E7 PRO has active noise cancelling abilities. It eradicates an enormous amount of lower frequency hums and ambient sounds. However, while it is still reduced, the mid and upper frequencies can still be heard. This includes the human voice, beeping cars, etc. Like mentioned before, the music loses a bit of its meat once the active noise cancelling is initiated. However, it was easily fixed after a bit of EQ.

TaoTronics TT-BH060
The TaoTronics TT-BH060 provides great active noise cancellation for the price. It blocks out the majority of lower frequencies while reducing mid to higher frequencies. In other words, they work great for traveling since most engine noises, and ambient sounds are at lower frequencies. Many people claim these headphones work incredibly well for office use. Considering it blocks out most of the annoying lower frequencies for better focus, you can still hear somebody if they need to speak with you. However, it still reduces the background chatter by a decent amount.

Overall, the Plantronics Pro 2 has the best active noise cancelling.

Battery Life

Battery life is an overlooked subject when speaking about over-ear headphones. Obviously, the only headphones that have a battery life are those which are wireless. Many headphones on the market do not have wireless capabilities. But for those who do, a more extended battery-life becomes a convenient factor.

Plantronics Pro 2
The Plantronics Pro 2 has a decent battery life of 24 hours.

Silensys E7 PRO
The Silensys E7 PRO offers a solid battery life span of 30 hours.

TaoTronics TT-BH060
Like the OneOdio Y80B, these headphones give you a 30-hour battery life, as well.

Added Features

Here we summarize each pair headphones and talk about some of the added features.

Plantronics Pro 2
A very unique feature these headphones offer is the wireless range of 330 feet. However, many claim the range is only 70-100. Keep in mind, nearly every other pair of wireless Bluetooth headphones on the market has an average of 30 feet of wireless range. Something that I find unique about the Plantronics Pro 2 is its automatic pause to music once the headphones are taken off. I also like the multifunction button on the right ear cup as it allows you to access the virtual assistant and answer phone calls. On the left ear cup are various controls as well, such as the pause/play, skip a song, previous song, volume, and ANC switch. Overall, the Plantronics Pro 2 is an incredible pair of noise-cancellation headphones that will not let you down.

Silensys E7 PRO
One of the most famous pair of affordable noise-cancelling headphones on the market, the Silensys E7 PRO is the safest overall choice for the money. These headphones offer a solid Bluetooth 4.0 connection. It also has a great built-in microphone that produces clear quality phone calls. You can get these headphones in 7 different colors. Frequent flyers who don’t want to pay too much for headphones tend to gravitate towards the Silensys E7 PRO for a few reasons. They are comfortable, they have decent active noise-cancelling, they are wireless, and they produce quality sound clarity.

TaoTronics TT-BH060
They are incredibly affordable and an excellent bang for the buck pair of headphones. Between the build quality, ANC capabilities, secure Bluetooth 5.0 wireless connection, comfort, and decent sound quality, this is yet another pair of headphones that’s too good for its low price. With its built-in mic, you can also make and receive phone calls. Overall, I highly recommend these for people in need of noise-canceling headphones for an office at the lowest price. Coming with the purchase, you get a carry case, 3.5 mm auxiliary cord, and micro USB charging cable.

Overall, considering its long wireless range, the Plantronics Pro 2 has the best added features.
